Boffin is operated by No Gear Consulting ("Boffin", "we", "us", or "our"). This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how to contact us.

What Boffin Does

Boffin is a daily lateral-thinking puzzle app. You can play anonymously, sign in with Apple or Google to preserve progress, optionally receive notifications, invite friends through share links, and subscribe to Boffin Pro for archive, arcade, advanced stats, unlimited hints, and lock-screen widget features.

Information We Collect

Account Information

• Supabase user ID
• Apple or Google sign-in identifier, if you sign in
• Email address, if provided by Apple or Google
• Display name, if you enter one
• Locale and timezone

Puzzle And Gameplay Information

• Puzzle starts, clue reveals, hints, submitted answers, answer results, score, streaks, time to solve, archive/arcade activity, and share-link activity
• Evaluation reports you send when you believe an answer was judged incorrectly

Subscription Information

• Boffin Pro entitlement status
• Product ID, store, renewal/period status, and purchase/restore events
• We do not receive your full payment card details. App Store payments are handled by Apple.

Friend And Sharing Information

• Invite/share link tokens
• Friend relationship status between Boffin user IDs after a friend accepts an invite
• We do not import your contacts in v1.

Notification Information

• Push notification token
• Notification preferences, reminder time, and streak-at-risk setting

Device, Analytics, And Diagnostics

• App version, device/OS information, crash reports, performance diagnostics, analytics events, and feature usage
• IP address may be processed by our infrastructure and service providers for security, fraud prevention, analytics, and reliability.

We do not collect precise location, health data, financial account data, contacts, photos, microphone recordings, or camera data for v1.

How We Use Information

• Provide the puzzle experience and enforce one submission per puzzle
• Judge answers and improve evaluation quality
• Maintain streaks, stats, leaderboards, and friend invites
• Sync Pro entitlements and show paywalls only when appropriate
• Send notifications you enable
• Operate, debug, secure, and improve the app
• Respond to support requests and evaluation reports
• Prepare aggregate product metrics

Answer Judging And AI

Answer judging runs server-side. A judging request may include the puzzle clues, canonical answer, answer guidance, and your submitted answer. API keys are never stored in the app. We avoid sending direct account identifiers to the AI judging provider unless required for abuse prevention or debugging.

Service Providers

Boffin may use Supabase, Superwall, Apple StoreKit, OpenAI, Expo, Apple Push Notification service, PostHog or similar analytics, Sentry or similar diagnostics, Apple, and Google. These providers process information on our behalf or as independent providers under their own terms and policies.

Tracking And Advertising

Boffin has no third-party ads and does not sell personal information. v1 should not use data for cross-app tracking or targeted advertising. If attribution or advertising SDK features that meet Apple's definition of tracking are enabled later, we will update this policy and App Store privacy answers before release.

Legal Bases

Where applicable, we process data to perform our contract with you, pursue legitimate interests such as app security and improvement, comply with legal obligations, and honor your consent for optional notifications or marketing-style communications if introduced later.

Retention

We keep account, puzzle, subscription, and leaderboard records while your account is active and as needed to operate the app, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, satisfy legal/accounting requirements, and preserve aggregate analytics. Evaluation reports and support messages are kept as long as needed to investigate and improve answer quality.

Your Choices

• Play anonymously
• Skip sign-in
• Turn notifications off in Boffin Settings or iOS Settings
• Manage or cancel Boffin Pro in iPhone Settings
• Edit your display name in Boffin Settings
• Request account/data deletion by emailing nogearconsulting@gmail.com

If you request deletion, we may keep limited records where required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or accounting reasons.

Children

Boffin is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

International Transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live, including the United States and the United Kingdom. We use service providers with appropriate safeguards where required.

Changes

We may update this policy as Boffin changes. Material changes will be reflected in the app or on getboffin.app.
